Abstract
Taiwan launched various ESL movements in education, training, standardization and industrialization since 2005. Under Taiwan SoC Consortium an ESL Working Group (ESL WG) was established and people from universities, industry and research institutes have been working together with great achievements. Under the great impact of so-called Financial Tsunami 2009, the global competition in international market and technology are even more severe than before. Taiwan IC industry has learned the dire need to promote IC design capabilities, and raised the willingness to adopt ESL. However, still hesitate to move forward due to the high cost that may procure. While ESL has been widely adopted by global leading design and system houses, ESL WG decides to transform into Taiwan SystemC Users Group (TSCUG) to host regular open forums to further push ESL technologies. In this 1st TSCUG Forum we invite Dr. Kazuhiro Yoshinaga from STARC to introduce their efforts in TLM 2.0 modeling guideline; NCKU, NTHU and NTU to illustrate achievements in ESL research and standardization over the years; IC design and services houses and EDA vendors to talk about ESL practices in industry projects; Mr. Ian Mackintosh, Chairman and President of Open Core Protocol – International Partnership (OCP-IP,) to make an annual report. This forum is concluded with the “Is Taiwan Ready for ESL?” panel with panelists from academy, industry and research institute to debate how Taiwan can do to move forward in ESL.
